Head of State Visited Universities’ Central Library

The Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, visited the Universities’ Central Library on Thursday, 5 February 2026.
During the visit, library officials presented reports on the systematic preservation of ancient books and publications and explained the arrangements made to facilitate students’ access to these valuable resources. The Senior General provided guidance on ongoing activities and addressed the needs identified during the presentation.
The visit concluded with the Senior General signing the library’s guest book.

“Workshop on How To Do Research and Use Online Databases” and Donation of databases

On 23rd August, 2019, “Workshop on How To Do Research and Use Online Databases” was conducted by iGroup, group of companies at the Universities’ Central Library. Online databases were also donated by iGroup to Universities’ Central Library and Universities in Yangon and Lower Myanmar Region. An opening address was given by Dr. Than Than Win, Deputy Director General, Department of Higher Education and Dr. Aung Maw, Chief Technology Officer of iGroup.

About 100 guests including Pro-rectors, Lecturers, Librarians and Library Staff from Yangon and Lower Myanmar Universities were attended this Workshop training. During the Workshop training, “Librarian’s role in supporting research and development” was presented by Mr. David Shawah, Director of iGroup and training on “How to use online databases” was conducted by Ms. Jennifer Yong, a Solution Consultant from iGroup.

4 online databases – ProQuest Central, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, World Ebooks Library and American Chemical Society Journals were donated for 1 year and gave training on how to use them for research. It was a very useful and effective workshop for the librarians.
